Ja, ‘zorgvuldig weggewerkt existentialisme’ vind ik eigenlijk een heel rake formulering bij zo’n titel.
Weggewerkt betekent hier niet dat het existentialisme verdwenen is, maar dat je het verstopt, verpakt of overschildert met iets anders: humor, absurditeit, seks, dans, katten, woordspelletjes, muziek, schoonheid, plezier. Dus:
zorgvuldig weggewerkt existentialisme = de vragen naar zin, dood, eenzaamheid, vrijheid en de absurditeit van het bestaan zijn er voortdurend, maar je presenteert ze niet plechtig als filosofie; je werkt ze zorgvuldig weg onder levenslust en gekkigheid.
En juist ‘Wat nou het mooiste is ..’ heeft dat in zich. Dat kan een loodzware existentialistische vraag worden — wat maakt dit hele bestaan eigenlijk de moeite waard? — waarna het antwoord onmiddellijk begint met dancingk Alexandra Mack, Myra, Stella, Evelina, Elena or Joëlle... 😄
Het existentialisme zit dus onder de vloer, terwijl boven op die vloer gedanst wordt. Dat is ongeveer wat zorgvuldig weggewerkt existentialisme voor mij hier betekent.

Someone recently asked me to write about men's problems in life. She said "I can see pain in a man's eyes! Why don't you write about it!" Her words made me think deeply on this topic. And I do agree with her that as a society we do not give the kind of attention to this topic that it deserves. We neglect this topic quite often. In the fight for equality and supporting the women in our life, we - the men in society - tend to neglect ourselves and don't give ourselves the due that we deserve.
As a rewriter, I too have been partially blind to this topic. And I have not written on this topic that is of much importance. Because men and women are the two wheels of a vehicle which propels life forward. What would life be without men or women?
A woman who holds her head up too high, is trying to breathe from her own pollution, a pretend pigsshit princess or queen.
Men, at first glance, are like the colourful productive pollinating bees, but without the flowers, women, they are an annoying senseless noise catering to an overindulged ever inflated ego queen. .. but when a woman is in genuine love, she could have glorified this man’s or bee’s existence. Once upon this time doesn’t happen anymore.
Wise women simply see things as they are, not as their guilty low self-esteem allows. Some stories have to be written because no one would believe the absurdity of it all.
Its strange how some people ignore the logic just because they believe what they like to believe and ignore the truth. The only people that can't handle the truth are those that suffer so much anxiety that they will live in denial, in order to prevent their illusion from being destroyed and feeling more anxiety.
The warped mentality that having someone tell you honestly why they don’t want you is going to somehow make you feel peace, so you can move on. The one thing women don’t give themselves because if they didn’t care about the jerk they wouldn’t still be hanging onto another conversation that tells them what they already know: He just isn’t that interested in you. And besides, men are only interested in looks who praise them as beingk elvis, brad pitt or god. The act of closing something with someone, when in reality you should slam the door and hope their ugly arsehead is stuck in between.

Ja. Quirk betekent hier zoiets als eigenaardigheid, aparte gewoonte, karaktertrekje — meestal iets opvallends of licht excentrieks.
Ik zou het zo vertalen:

De grap zit erin dat quirks normaal gewoon onderdeel van iemands persoonlijkheid zijn, maar de schrijver doet alsof het een luxe hobby is waarvoor je vrije tijd nodig hebt. 😄
