 Samenvatting van 'Why Socialism?' – Albert Einstein (1949)

In zijn essay 'Why Socialism?' uit 1949 analyseert Albert Einstein de problemen van het kapitalistische systeem en pleit hij voor een meer rechtvaardige, democratisch-socialistische samenleving.

Belangrijkste inzichten:

1. Kapitalisme veroorzaakt ongelijkheid doordat een kleine groep mensen economische macht en bezit concentreert.

2. De drang naar winst leidt tot verspilling van middelen, vervreemding van de mens en onzekerheid over bestaanszekerheid.

3. Politieke instellingen worden sterk beïnvloed door economische machthebbers, waardoor echte democratie verzwakt.

6. De productie en distributie moeten volgens hem in gemeenschappelijk belang worden georganiseerd, onder democratische controle.

7. Vrijheid blijft belangrijk: socialisme mag nooit verworden tot een autoritaire staatsvorm.
